Molding refers to the process of using a mold to produce a required shape.
The mold is subjected to pressure and temperature to promote the vulcanization of the rubber compound.
Shrinkage of the rubber must be considered when designing the rubber mold.
Typical shrinkage can range from 1 ½ to 3 ½ percent. This shrinkage is factored into the mold design.
Molded sheets are available in thickness ranging from .250" to .500" in silicone and fluoroelastomer compounds. Not all mold sizes are available.
Standard dimensions are 24" x 24", 36" x 36" and 48" x 48". Molded sheet tolerances differ from calendered sheet goods.
